Pegasus Mail (http://www.pmail.com) handles threads properly, sends 
non-HTML mail properly, deals with incoming HTML mail properly, uses 
Olin's preferred character set and MIME type, has excellent filtering 
and decent built-in spam-control tools, detects phishing attempts, 
can use POP3 or IMAP, has support for multiple identities and 
mailboxes, does very fast complex searches, and is absolutely free of 
charge.  I've been happily using it for PICLIST mail for over ten 
years.  The beta on the pmail.com website (version 4.3) has been out 
for a number of months and seems perfectly stable.
