I'm afraid even that little effort is too much for a lot of people - and since the decisions as to whether a given message should be in PIC, EE, or OT seem to be the subject of much debate, putting a "free form" extension would cause plenty of "This should have been .windows, not .winXP" arguments, which just raises the noise level. There is never going to be an infallible way for anyone to automatically see only those messages that interest them, and I feel the tag system we have is probably as close as we're likely to get to a reasonable compromise.
