These would be the so called 'snubbing' capacitors, I think. They are supposed to reduce ringing of the LC circuit when the diode switches. (L = transformer winding, C = filter capacitor). I've seen lots of folks arguing about whether they make any difference. I have never found any difference, so I don't use them. Some folks say that an RC network, or just a resistor, works better than a capacitor.
