This shows that we live in different juridical systems. In a UK-derived system this is important, and in movies you often see the defence lawyer trying to create the image of a good citizen, while the prosecuter tries the opposite. In a Napoleon-derived system this is much much less importanten, and if it is interesting at all it is so for the judge, not for the police (and ceratinly not for the jury, which we do not have).
