They are comprised of 6 AAAA (yes quadruple A) batteries wired in series and have ~ 1/2 the charge capacity of AAAs. If you need 3V to power your RTC consider either 2 AAAs or 2 N cells, they provide more bang for the buck in approximately the same space.
