THanks for the suggestion - it is not likely to be a blown controller = card=20 or blown HD drive, since SpinRite 6.0 is able to see the HD just fine, = and=20 when run on the HD reports no errors found. SR does go through and = refresh=20 all of the sectors on the disk while it is running its analysis. It's free from http://www.knoppix.net/ From what you have said so far, if knoppix want mount it, then you = are=20 probably looking at a blown controller board. Check the board and see if you see any obvious burned parts. Check the = capacitors near the power plug and see if they are burned or cracked. If you don't = find any=20 bad parts, then plug the hard drive back into the computer, turn the computer on, wait = about 15 minutes and then start putting your finger on top of the chips on the board, if = one of=20 them extremely hot (enough to probably burn your finger) then you've found the problem.=20 Replace any bad parts or buy a hard drive of the exact same type and revision number and = swap the=20 controller boards.
