I know what you're talking about, but the colleges that I attended were the less prestigious ones you're talking about - without grants, or professors doing research and publishing papers. Perhaps the education I got was of the same quality, only cheaper. ;-) Education and medicine are two fields where the "invisible hand" doesn't work too well. I still don't understand why, though. Perhaps because the quality of service does not depend as much on the satisfaction of the consumers, as it does in other industries?
