CCD sensors in a range of brands of digital cameras are failing. These 
all appear to use SONY CCD sensors. Symptoms are either a completely 
black 'image' or distortion or purplish coloration

Free repair is offered by all suppliers.
News of this has only come to hand this month - dates on which they 
issued news of this problem vary with brand and Sony appear to have 
been 'rather late'.

your camera make should turn up relevant information.

Probably not coincidentally - yesterday afternoon my beloved Minolta 
7Hi camera went suddenly and totally blind. Everything works *except* 
it sees total blackness when it peers at the world. I'll be talking to 
Minolta tomorrow (today's a public holiday).
