True....all you need to do is generate H and V and feed the data into a video DAC. Did that sort of stuff for a number of years, just not in a PIC. Used it for doing graphical overlays for HUDs. Many, many moons ago a friend of mine did something similar with a few 555's and a fistfull of diodes.
