Become enlightened, and get a unix BASH-like shell instead (part of cygwin, but perhaps obtainable otherwise.) Filename completion and real regular expressions as well as unix-style filename wildcarding. Similarly on Macs, there are things that work much better from a unix shell than from one of the GUI utils...
