Colin, Specifically, I'm going to use Thompson (ST) M41T0. I'd prefer to have communications and the reading and writing of the various registers. If that isn't possible, even something close would give me a start to build on. If I'm not mistaken, this part is function and register equivalent to some of the Dallas Semiconductor / Maxim parts that also use I2C for communications. So if you know of something for one of the Dallas parts, that would probably work too. I appreciate the time you're taking to help me out.
