But the average is pleasant as you said. Imho start looking at a heavy slab floor (granite or such) and a pool (not necessarily for swimming, a small fish pond will make a good start). Both items serve to integrate the heat input and output. Of course moving into a stone house would help a lot but I suspect that that would be out of budget.
