Also no one has given the other syntaxes (syntaxii?) and why they prefer it.

Personally I think the syntax using the decimal point is bad, as it is all
too easy to miss seeing the decimal point in a listing. Now this does not
matter for numbers in the range of 0-9, but once larger than that, if the
default radix is hexadecimal (hint - guess another way of setting decimal,
that Olin prefers) then it is all too easy to figure that .10 is 10 hex -
and such a mistake is all too easy to make in the pressure of attempting to
get something debugged in a hurry..
