I chalk it up to insular nationalism, laziness, and "Not Invented Here." Anyone imposing a change at the Federal level would meet resistance back home. I was in grade school in the brief span of years when the U.S. flirted with metric, so my cohort knows what a centimeter is. But I think few people older or younger do, other than scientists/engineers and people who travel elsewhere (which is a minority). -- Timothy J.
