If you mean the small USB pen style MP3 players, then they do take a reasonable amount of current, certainly enough to kill an alkaline AAA in 6-8 hours, probably ~50mA. That would require a solar panel rather larger than the device itself. Why are you so dead set against rechargeables? A capacitor won't be of much use in this application.
