The existence of one from Real probably means that there isn't a "not > a virus" version. I don't know what you mean by 'virus'. I have RealPlayer 10 on Linux (and older RealPlayer 8) and it works fine. No nagware at all. It also sounds better than MP3 at the same data rate and many news/tv stations use this format. The only problem I see is, when installed it configures the system to open a lot of file formats with realplay, which it shouldn't. This mostly affects a file called ~/.mailcap on *nix systems so backing that up will give you a chance to back out of its unwanted changes, if any.
