In SX Microcontrollers, SX/B Compiler and SX-Key Tool, dkemppai wrote:
Dan, when using the word "to wire", I actually meant "to connect". IOW, a PCB trace would be used to connect the OSC pins. I'll try to be more precise in future posts. Using a SAW oscillator would also require that you somehow wire (sorry, I mean "connect") the clock output to the SXes OSC1 pins. Maybe, it would help us to give you better hints if you could specify in more detail what you are planning to do. Am I right assuming that you want to run an array of two or more SXes with synchroized clocks or clocks matching as close as possible?
One SX is moving and the other isn't. They are completely separate circuit boards. They are communicating at 3Mbps. The communications allows for quite a bit of mismatch in frequency. It all works, it's just that every once in a while I end up with a resonator that doesn't seem to want to 'play' well with others, even with a robuts communications scheme. Currently, my guys have time to fully test every unit before they ship, and replace resonators as needed. However, sales are picking up, and I would really like to find resonators that are well matched, right out of the box. (Again, 50 or 25ppm xtals are not robust enough :( ) I'm starting to think that it may be better to utilize a VCO and PLL to lock into the RX'd bit stream from the moving device, and use that to generate a 50Mhz clock based on that data stream. That way, every resonator will always work. (This is feasable, since I'm already working on an upgraded version of the unit) -Anyway, looks like there are no 'higher tolerance' devices avaliable... ...which is what I was hoping for.
