For those that can be interested (?) I have found on the web this simple but ingenious PIC Datalogger for fluorescent dyes detection in the water:

the detection limit is about 20 ppb of fluorescein dye ( not very high for this dye, as a commercial fluorometer is well under 1 ppb and often 0,02 ppb). However it is relatively simple, even if the "Hardware" part seems a bit rough..
