Martin Baker I have been watching this thread with growing fascination, and two things come to mind as possibly useful, although I haven't had the time to think them through. 1) I have used a lot of stepper motors with built in position/rate sensors, and since the mass they are moving is pretty small, they should be useful. This would give you an indexed rotation to assure positional accuracy, and if run of the same PIC, could allow for some fascinating effects like comets and satellite orbits 2)could you substitute some of the old tiny dot matrix led displays? They probably wouldn't have the required brightness. Also you might use UV leds with some of the fixed features on the dome in UV dye or ink, like meridians, Polaris, true north, etc... This is starting to sound like a really cool project. Now if you could interface it with a hemispherical touch screen and the drives for one of these new fangled star finder telescopes...
