Just pick a package with standard n*0.1inch spacing and worry about the details later, perhaps when you test fit components on a printout. 1/4 and 1/8 W resistors work fine with .3 or .4 inch lead spacing if mounted horizontally, .1 inch or .2 inch if mounted vertically. Most disk, ceramic, and electrolytic caps can be coerced in .2 inch spacing. And that's probably about all you need if you're a hobbyist doing a board that isn't jam-packed with components...
