I am using the same email client (Outlook) as Olin and sometimes
I have the same problems with Olin. This one is oaky though
(a very long line but will fit to the window automaticly).
The server here is running Microsoft Exchange 5.5 (too old!). 

The Webmail interface is a pain though since replying to email
is not working. So I use gmane or piclist.com to read PIClist
at home.

It's not my client, but a transport somewhere that is not in your path.  In
any case SMTP does not guarantee to transport arbitrarily long lines, so
sending long lines is a bad idea even if it does work most of the time.
