An internet fact sheet I looked up about Giardia suggests that chemical treatments will take care of Giardia, if the directions are precisely followed. That suggests that this level of cursory contact with iodine would be inadequate. The flow rate looks REALLY low to me. I think they quoted 100-150 ml/min, which is really just one or two good swigs of water. I think they'd do really well to come up with a siphon kit or something, perhaps a bag-to-bag system that could be filled and hung easily.
