About dsPIC30 and hobbyists/newbies... Now, how many hobbyists/newbies are realy looking for that DSP "thing" ? If it's just the added "power" (speed, peripherials and so on), it could be better to wait for the "standard" 16-bits PIC24 (it was "24", right ?) Yes, you can use the dsPIC30 without looking at the DSP engine, but it's still extra pages in the datasheet and extra instructions and so on. And by the time that PIC24 hit the streets, the tools might have evolved a bit more then today (mainly 3-part programmers).
