Or not have a lawn that needs mowing? Aren't lawn mowers bad for the environment
- air pollution, noise pollution, requiring oil and water and perhaps chemicals,
etc.? Lawns are usually a North American landscape item from what I've read; how
do other countries avoid mowing?

I hear there are types of grass that do not grow tall, if a compromise is
desired, but I've no experience with them. We've got a lot of lawn here, and I'd
support a move to less mowing.
