Thank you for the advice Peter, I was curious how hard/inconvenient it was to tin the wire in place since we don't have a tinning pot. I didn't have any bare copper wire handy to try it out. That's exactly what I was trying to figure out. Chip > The solderability of copper wire can be badly compromised by > storage.
