Last Friday we got a chance to meet a Microchip VP (SMTD division) I was asking a problem regarding why Microchip could not add fast ADCs to PIC MCU (other than dsPICs) like those in Silabs C8051F3xx. He told me it was an architecture problem. I could understand that why Microchip can not put a MCU into a 3mmx3mm small package like C8051F30x (bigger die than 8051 and process related issues) but I am not so sure why Microchip can not put a fast ADC (10 bit and >= 200ksps). What could be the problem? By the way, it is good that now Microchip starts to offer 4mmx4mm PICs in the 8/14/20 pin family. The features and price are both okay. We may look at PICs again after switching to Silabs for some new projects.
