Anybody ever fixed one of these >things ----> what can go wrong? :o >Thanks - Debbie I have two drill presses- one has a double-nut and the cover fits on with a bayonet type setup, the smaller one also has a thin double nut and the cover is keyed to the casting. The force (with quill retracted) isn't all that scary (it's easy to twist with your hand), but were I to disassemble it, I'd *at least* wear safety glasses, maybe a full face shield. On my big one, you can see the spring clipped into the bottom of the "silver" cover, on the small one you can see it shoved into a slot. I don't think it would be difficult to repair if you can get the spare part. I assume the spring on yours is probably broken. Easy enough to pop the cover off and see (I'd still wear safety glasses just in case). If it's just broken near the end, maybe you could anneal the end and bend that part to fit.
