In my opinion James created an 'almost wiki' quite a long time ago with his massmind sites, including PICLIST.COM. The only significant reason I could see to transfer over to a 'true' wiki would be that the interface to it is more familiar (dare I say easier?) and might result in more use of the site (both to get and provide information).
