Hi Tino, Do you know about Knoppix? It's a linux distribution that runs completely from CD. If you boot from it, then run a program called "gpart" (it's on the knoppix cd) it will recreate your partition table by scanning the disk and analyzing it. I have used it to recreate a multi-partition disk that Windows XP partition tool messed up. If you google for "knoppix" and "gpart" you will likely turn up some more hints. If I may make a pitch for a good book, "Knoppix Hacks", it has lots of useful things you can do with Knoppix. Knoppix is freely downloadable from http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/ Cheerful regards, Bob On 30 May 2005 at 12:27, Buehler, Martin wrote: > my original disk partitioning has been: > > disk1: primary partition + beginning of dynamic volume > disk2: part2 of dynamic volume > disk3: part3 of dynamic volume > > unfortunately, i deleted the primary partition on disk1 for test > purposes. > > now, i need to regenerate a primary partition on disk1, but windows does > only allow me to generate a simple dynamic volume, but no primary > partition. > > i also tried to generate such a partition using the windows install cd, > but doing so, the install tool tells me that the dynamic multi disk > volume will be lost, when generating a primary partition. > > what workaround allows me to regenerate a primary partition on this > disk, without loosing all data on the dynamic multi disk volume? > > please help! > > tino -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
