The possibility that a 4 Mhz PIC works with a 6 Mhz crystal "on the bench" is probably very close to 100%, but what does that say ? Get a 4Mhz crystal (or resonator). Or a faster PIC... B.t.w, the 16(L)C924 is on the "Mature" list, so maybe you should look for another PIC anyway.
