Yes if it works :) I haven't used MPLAB with the serial adapter I have, cause I don't do much debugging with the laptop but, when it works you plug it in and it gets detected and becomes a new com port. The next problem is that if the software can see com ports higher than 4. I think winXP is ok, but versions before wouldn't allow this. So you have to set the com port number below 4 for it to be seen. Some older software also only see the first 4 com ports. In my checks when I got the "Unknown USB", I have written drivers for USB in the past, the PID and VID were being read back as 0000, so windows could not detect it, when I plugged it into a powered hub, it just worked.
