Load the output with something around half rated load pure resistive.
Measure peak to peak and meter AC volts readings.
Observe waveforms.

If not at about rated voltage by all methods and if not a pretty sine
wave then moan.

What happens if you leave the output shorted? How hot does it get?
Does it die? (He says it's short circuit proof so ...).
