Guys I have come accross a problem with my father-in-laws DVD player. The problem seems to relate to the format that the DVD is encoded under. If He plays a PAL encoded DVD then all is OK. If he plays an NTSC encoded DVD then the picture rolls. Colour is OK so it's PAL encoded, and he can flick a switch under the front panel of his TV that changes it to 60Hz fields - and everything comes right again. (Untill he goes back to off air or the flash screen of the player etc.) The problem is that he doesn't want to. I know my TV automatically adjusts between various formats but have not been able to figure out if the field rate is changing or if my VCR/DVD player does the conversion. I could dig the 'scope out of the garage but was looking for enlightened opinion first. Is the 50/60Hz field thing embedded in the DVD data, or is there a chance he will be able to buy a new DVD player (at reasonable price) that outputs standard PAL 50Hz whatever the encoding?
