On the other hand, the "electronics scrap" bins serve as a nice concentrating influence - not so much need to hunt all over. This week I found a brand new 256MB USB flash drive. Someone had gotten a new laptop (they come with flash drives here, instead of floppies), and I guess they didn't want the drive. It was sitting there, in it's opened box, on the pile of 'cardboard recycling.'
