Has anyone else noticed a bug with USB to RS232 adapters using Hyperterminal? It's either the adapter or Hyperterminal. If you type more than one of the same character in Hyperterminal, every other character starting with the second character is truncated by one or two bits(depending on what the character is). If you type a different character each time, all is well. For instance, if you typed "123", everything is fine. If you type "111", the middle character is shorter by one bit. I've narrowed it down to adapters that are based on the "prolific" chip. Windows uses a driver called "ser2pl.sys" and the adapter is marketed under many names - "iogear, aten, GUC232", etc. I've tested it with Windows 98 and XP. Adapters based on the FTDI chip work fine with Hyperterminal. They are also 2 or 3 times the price. This might be only an issue when using Hyperterminal, because other applications don't seem to give me any problems. Anyway, if you are having trouble debugging a PIC serial problem, and you are using Hyperterminal and a USB adapter, perhaps this email will save you some grief. -Bob -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
