I am running linux right now, so not 100% sure if this works:
On your start menu, select a DOS shell.
Then enter IPCONFIG and run it.
Or something like that.... it should show your IP as well as your 
gateway to the outside world.
if it shows 192.168.1.x for your gateway, maybe it is because verizon 
decided to do it that way for your link.

You can also ping or trace (trace route) www.yahoo.com or another 
website to see the path taken.
