I wanted to be a Lumberjack - at least according to the careers advice I got when I was a student! In fact I always wanted to be an Inventor, but it turns out there isn't any such job unless you're Uncle Sir Clive, Trevor Baylis or James Dyson. But at least as a computer person I could invent solutions to problems, and I always design my systems as if they were machines, even if they are software-only.
