Now that you and your progeny have been well-slammed,
here's a suggestion.  Set up dual boot on your PC.  I
have Win2K (xp with out the calories) +  Win98SE
installed and can boot into either.  You have to play
a bit with the file system if you didn't anticipate
dual boot but google turns up several how-to pages. 
There are utilities that will repartition your disk to
make room.  I'd make a smallish one for win98. If I
need win98, I just reboot into it.

Also, I've gotten a similar LPT programmer (MELabs) to
work under Win2K by disabling the printer polling plus
one of the later SPs.  I don't remember all the
machinations but as usual, all roads start from
google...
