I set up a very simple hypertext system in 1987, because the whole programming department was being made redundant and the operators who had to use my systems couldn't ask for help after we'd gone, so I wrote a quick & dirty help system for them, using hypertext links (I'd just heard of the idea and it wasn't hard to implement). This was on Datapoint systems, text-only. I'm not sure how useful they found it - time ran out before much actual content was put into it. Was it really another seven years before HTTP came along?
