This day doesn't REALLY have any technological happenings so major as to justify it's inclusion for that reason but there were so many fascinating things that happened today back then that I thought I had to WOT it. By no means a complete list. I'll try to ignore most such for the next week. 1429 Joan of Arc enters besieged city of Orleans preparatory to beating the English in battle. 1861 Maryland admin votes against seceding from the Union. 1862 New Orleans falls to Union troops 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin collapses 1945 American soldiers liberate Dachau Karl Donitz appointed last Fuhrer of the 3rd Reich Hitler marries Eva Braun 1992 Los Angeles Rodney King rioting 1997 Worldwide treaty to ban chemical weapons goes into effect. Donitz is better known as WW2 German mastermind of the U Boat War and later head of German navy when Grand Admiral Raeder resigns. His period as Fuhrer lasted only long enough to arrange Germany's surrender.
