Why not just use a service? I know Digi Key will preprogram for fairly cheap if you buy from them. I looked into this about 6 months ago - the minimums were pretty small and prices reasonable. I thought about the low-wage kid approach but didn't like it because I was worried I'd get a couple of percent error rate (chip not programmed, most likely). Reworking a few more percent wasn't something I wanted to do. Maybe with a good process it could be 100% but letting the supplier do it was a better approach for me. --- "John J.
