Dave, the K149 seems to sometimes need VCP adjustments to run under XP 
sp2. The fix was
latency = 1mS and packet size = 64 bytes. Examine the later comments at 
the DIY Forum at

The other issue seems to be a Palm Pilot Synchronizer program that 
unhinges MicroPro because
it is constantly connection-seeking thru the VCP ports.
