It is only an example, after all. As is, it more than covers 99.9% of books I see. You obviously had a closer look than I did, I didn't look at the header/footer setup, as different first/even/odd pages are standard, and Word handles those as well as the others you mention. The equation editor is apparently easy to use, but is an optional component, so not everyone has it. Adding it as standard leads to complaints about bloat. Sigh.
