> Does anyone know >about the newer one that makes claims of a laser? I have to think >that there is no laser involved and that it is just a name given to >the mouse. I recently bought a Logitech MX1000 "laser" mouse. Mt preferred mousepad is a clipboard with a legal pad on it, and most optical mice track poorly on smooth paper, jumping around a bit or just not tracking well. The MX1000 is also my first wireless mouse, as I had some experience with cheap wireless mice before and wanted better reliability. After two weeks regular use I can give the MX1000 an "A" rating. It tracks very well on smooth paper, leather, denim, fingertips, etc.. I've had no jumping around or mis-tracking at all. The wireless aspect has only failed once. At that time, pressing "reset" on both the base and mouse did NOT correct it, but power cycling did the trick. This was only needed once. Battery life has not been an issue, even when I don't return it to the charging cradle, it just shuts itself off if it's not moved for a while. The battery charge indicator has never gone below 3 bars (the max). The charging station gets it's own wall-wart, so it can charge while the computer is off. I don't know if it's really a laser, I see no beam emitted.. (could be IR, I suppose), but it works as well or better than I hoped.
