You are perhaps referring to Pogo Pins? Spring loaded pins (with a variety of tip styles) for making contact to test points on PCBs? Newark (www.newark.com) sells them. See the pictures at www.ectinfo.com and then look up the company on the Newark site to see what they stock. Assuming thats what you want, I've noticed that most people miss the fact that they sell receptacles for mounting the pins. You still have to press fit the sockets into something nonconductive, but then you can replace the pins in the event they wear out. The receptacles are available with solder tails as well.
