In what way do you think it's not?  I used to map filesystem pages
to process memory pages cooperatively all the time.  20 years ago.
On mainframes :-)  The memory mapping subroutines for the pascal
program to implement multi-window "chat" via shared memory between
processes was closer to 25 years ago, I guess...  Sigh.  I feel old.
