Please, if you need more > informations > just ask. Clock skew? If the N-1 chip has changed its D-out before the clock edge arrives at the N chip you will have problems. IMHO the only real solution is to use a chip with a delayed output. (IIRC HC4094?) To diagnose: try feeding the clock from the opposite end of the chain.
