IMHO, the advantages of the 18F parts far outweigh the downsides of sticking with the older 16C USB parts, especially for new development. I'm currently in the process of upgrading an existing USB product from 16C to 18F right now. There's a bit of a learning curve (it's my first 'real' 18F project) but I anticipate that the benefits will be well worth the effort. The Full Speed USB capability versus Low Speed is a huge benefit in and of itself. The faster processor and larger RAM size are just 'icing on the cake'. The increased RAM size will allow me to implement functionality that wasn't reasonable to do on the older parts.
