Since you sent plain text, there's no link information embedded in the message, so whether the link is "alive" or not depends on the receiver's email program, not the sender's or anything the sender does. One thing that works with many email programs is to use the proper address: http://russell.servepics.com/ should be "alive" in many email clients.
