As per recent messages, I have installed an Apache server on my home LAN. This works well for others BUT I am unable to see the server "from the outside" from within the LAN due to router action. For incoming traffic I have set the router to direct port 80 to port 80 on the PC which is running the server. When I attempt to access the server "across the net" at www.russell.servepics.com I instead am directed to the router's logon page - the same as I see when accessing 192.168.1.1 I imagine that this happens because the router requests the russell.servepics.com address, is passed my IP address by the DNS, and recognises this as it's own address, and provides its own homepage. (It's entirely likely that I've got this wrong :-) ). - Is there any way to prevent this occurring. - Are others able to see their own servers "on the internet" when accessing them from within their own LAN. I can see my server either by using http://localhost or http://192.168.1.xxx (PC on which server is located). This "internal" access SHOULD produce results equivalent to external access, but I'd rather be sure by viewing them exactly as others do. The router is integrated with my DSL modem so there's no way for me to place a computer on the "outside" of it. I'd happily read "the manual" if I but knew which one(s) to read ;-) RM -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
